چکیده

Indirect reciprocity, a key concept in evolutionary game theory, provides a mechanism that allows cooperation to emerge in a population of self-regarding individuals even when repeated interactions between pairs of actors are unlikely. Recent empirical evidence, in particular laboratory experiments, show that humans typically follow complex assessment strategies involving both reciprocity and imitation when making cooperative decisions. However, we currently have no systematic understanding of how indirect reciprocity and imitation mechanisms interact, and how they jointly affect the emergence of cooperation and the allocation of resources. Here we extend existing evolutionary models, which use an image score for reputation to track how individuals cooperate by contributing resources, by introducing a

Cooperation under Indirect Reciprocity and Imitative Trust

Indirect reciprocity, a key concept in behavioral experiments and evolutionary game theory, provides a mechanism that allows reciprocal altruism to emerge in a population of self-regarding individuals even when repeated interactions between pairs of actors are unlikely. Recent empirical evidence show that humans typically follow complex assessment strategies involving both reciprocity and socia...

Evolution of Indirect Reciprocity by Social Information : The Role of 1

The complexity of humans' cooperative behavior cannot be fully explained by theories of kin selection and group selection. If reciprocal altruism is to provide an explanation for altruistic behavior, it would have to depart from direct reciprocity, which requires dyads of individuals to interact repeatedly. For indirect reciprocity to rationalize cooperation among genetically unrelated or even ...

Trust and trustworthiness reputations in an investment game

Trust is an essential component of good social outcomes and effective economic performance. This is particularly true in environments such as the Prisoner’s Dilemma or standard public-goods games, where the equilibrium in a one-shot case involves strictly uncooperative behavior. Evolutionary biologists have developed the notion of indirect reciprocity, whereby favorable or unfavorable actions b...

The Long-Term Benefits of Human Generosity in Indirect Reciprocity

Among the theories that have been proposed to explain the evolution of altruism are direct reciprocity and indirect reciprocity. The idea of the latter is that helping someone or refusing to do so has an impact on one's reputation within a group. This reputation is constantly assessed and reassessed by others and is taken into account by them in future social interactions. Generosity in indirec...

Trustworthiness and competitive altruism can also solve the ¬タワtragedy of the commons¬タン ¬リニ

The benefits of a good reputation can help explain why some individuals are willing to be altruistic in situations where they will not receive direct benefits. Recent experiments on indirect reciprocity have shown that when people stand to benefit from having a good reputation, they are more altruistic towards groups and charities. However, it is unknown whether indirect reciprocity is the only...
